Since the Ruler of Sharjah, His Highness, Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council, Ruler of Sharjah, may God protect him, issued the Emiri Decree to establish the SCLD, this Center has been able to achieve most of the goals for which it was established and succeeded in employing an integrated set of activities, events and programs to spread awareness and scientific knowledge about learning difficulties. It is famous for the role it has played in evaluating and diagnosing cases of people with learning difficulties in all respects, as well as evaluating educational institutions and curricula, and seeking to train and qualify specialized cadres.
Because the numbers of students with learning difficulties vary greatly depending on the approved assessment and diagnosis tools, or because certain cases overlap with other cases, and some parents are reluctant to acknowledge their existence in their children…we find that it is still our duty and our top priority to raise awareness of the learning difficulties, define them, and work to provide means and tools for diagnosing them…taking it into consideration that accurate evaluation and diagnosis is the proper approach to dealing with learning difficulties and overcoming them, and enabling the people with learning difficulties to obtain their full rights to education at all its stages and at even the highest levels.
SCLD has been active in all directions and in all areas that serve the issues of students, their families and their workers. Today, it completes what it started and strengthens its role and diversifies its tools for educating the public about learning difficulties, whether through discovery projects or the conferences that it organizes annually or via its website that is always being renewed and is rich in information. SCLD website is the official portal that introduces the Center, its services, activities and categories that it serves, provides scientific knowledge about learning difficulties, and allows its visitors to view the courses and workshops that it organizes, with the ability to communicate with the Center and interact with its topics and other services.
SCLD website is a well-studied step in the right direction, especially because providing access to information and knowledge is one of the goals to be achieved for an enabling environment free from barriers and allowing everyone the right to access material and technical environments, in line with the comprehensive design principles that we have sought to develop and generalize as part of our fixed commitment to all groups of society, including people with learning difficulties.
We look forward to achieving the goals for which SCLD is established and to contribute, through its tools or its website, to closing the distances between the Center’s staff and people with learning difficulties and their families, in order to benefit them as they deal with their learning differences and uniqueness and overcoming the difficulties they face.
GOD BLESS
Jamila Bint Mohammed Al Qasimi,
Director-General of Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services
